本项目是将一个单层公寓（含2卧，1卫）改造成双层的家庭住宅（含3卧，2卫），房子面积紧凑，需要进行合理规划，要求客厅的空间能够容纳大型家庭临时聚会，同时还要划出一个安静的空间，作为高压工作的避风港，所以宁静感必不可少。

The brief was to convert an existing single level (2 bed, 1 bath) apartment into a 2 level (3 bed, 2 bath) family home. The space needed to accommodate large impromptu family gatherings in the living areas, in what is a reasonably compact floor plan, whilst simultaneously providing a calm, serene refuge from a demanding working life. The sense of stillness was a must.

 

 

公寓位于海边，客户要求营造出相应的休闲感，且要明显区别于传统的海滨风格。Decus从之前的设计师手中接过这个项目，其设计理念是基于当今的室内设计流行趋势，但客户从自身的品位和需求出发，认为这种风格易遭淘汰。我们的设计目标就是打造经久不衰、优雅的宁静感。

The client requested a relaxed home, suited to its coastal location, but one emphatically at odds with a ‘beachy’ predictability. Decus was engaged to take over from a previous designer, whose designs were grounded in current interior trends which the client felt were too ephemeral for her tastes and needs. A timeless, elegant serenity was our design objective.

 

 

我们接手时，整个公寓楼（4幢之一）的基础建设还在进行。所以我们面临一个挑战，即从头开始进行室内设计，解决现场出现的问题，如处理结构墙的支架。

Base building works were underway for the entire apartment block (of 4) by the time we began our commission. So the challenge became to redesign the interiors from scratch, dealing with constraints as they emerged on site, such as unexpected propping of existing structural wall.

 

 

针对这个项目的要求，我们遵循了客户的个人审美（即以客户的时尚品味为主旋律），打造“有机的现代主义”。我们不需要或是依赖于客户脑海中的想象，而是通过不断地与客户沟通，了解她想要的空间是什么感觉。

Our design response to the brief was one of ‘organic modernism’ which drew upon the client’s own personal aesthetic (using her fashion choices as primary cues). We did not request or rely on any concept imagery from the client, rather we engaged in continuous conversation around what she wished the spaces to ‘feel like’.

 

 

我们的设计理念是这样的，室内采用柔和的主色调，使用轻薄的涂层材料，并恰当利用高饱和度的色彩。我们想设计出一个简约风住宅，让人们的视线不再局限于室内，而是转向室外宁静的海景。考虑到公寓位于海边，我们精心挑选了耐潮、耐腐蚀的材料，包括天然黄铜、藤条、砂洗亚麻布、做旧皮革搭配厚天鹅绒、烟熏橡木地板和石砖。

Our concept developed into a palette of muted tones, with subtle layering of materials, and strong colours used judiciously. We wanted to create a clean, paredback home that evokes the calming ocean views without competing with them. Given the coastal location we were also careful to use materials which could withstand the damp and corrosive effects of the elements. These included natural brass, wicker, stone-washed linen, aged leather juxtaposed against rich velvet, smoked oak flooring and statement stone.

 

 

我们在细木器上和楼梯处添加曲线来柔化空间。客厅处设计了嵌入式木质基座，可在大型家庭聚会时提供额外的座位。开门进来，从客厅到远处的海景，开阔式设计让一切尽收眼底。全屋的细木工工艺中都采用了弧形图案，细木工制品中（如散热器面板和衣柜门）应用了交织的弧形图案，营造出了客户想要的含蓄的女性特质和优雅感。

We softened the spaces by adding curved elements to joinery and stairs. We designed built-in plinth joinery in the sitting room to offer additional seating when required for large family gatherings. We employed an arc motif throughout the joinery, introducing a portal opening from the entry door, across the living room to the ocean view beyond, and weaving that motif through joinery elements such as the radiator panels and robe doors throughout. These all contributed to the feeling of subtle femininity and elegance desired by the client.

Our mission is to create spaces which are not identifiable as a ‘brand’. We believe that this is an important cultural design practice. We’re not looking to impose our will upon a client, which would be far too easy. Rather we endeavor to extract a client’s own sensibilities and deliver comforting / pleasing spaces to inhabit which truly reflect the people they are. Only then have we done our job properly.
